Tarleton said they had finishet planting a 50-acre field and had J5 acres cleared and almost ready for the tops when he was there last week. Other lands will be put in crop this year. Haiku Fruit and Land Company has commenced work on the 3000 acres vf cane land it purchased at Kipahulu, and quite a large area wi'l be planted this year.

Every acre of pineapples on the Kohala plantation is going to be covered with the paper mulch, he said, field experiments having abundantly demonstrated its value in this district. This new plantation is making good progress.

The fields are in good shape and the plants look green and healthy. Libby, McNeill Libby have sent one their big tractors to Molokai and are getting their organization together to start work in earnest on the Maunaloa lands on West Molokai, recently from the American 8ugar Company. Hawaiian Pineapple Company is getting a lot of preliminary work done on Lanai, although it may be a year or two before they plant their new holdings on a commercial scale. There has got to be a lot of development work first. conveyed to E.
