Captain Joseph T. Llddy, who arriv ed here yesterday in the S. S. Alameda to represent tho International Sea men's Union of America, vice C. Sor- eiiBon, who goes to San Diego, reports observing a comet of unusual magnitude while en route from the Coast.

At 4:15 a. m. on Tuesday, August 0, he saw the strange phnomonon in tne constellation of Orian and immediate ly made an observation to determine the altitude which he found to be 33 degrees, 24 minutes and 20 seconds. bearing cast by north, three-quarters north. On the following morning, at 2:30 o'clock, he again sighted tho comet and it had shifted to such an extent as to Indicate tremendous velocity.

Ollveira has been in the prison for about nine montns, on a fifteen year sentence for man-slaughter. He was sentenced by Judge Parsons of Hllo for cutting another Porto RIcan with a knife while in a drunken fight at a 'dance, from which injuries his opponent died some time afterwards.
